Unusual 1920s male French mannequin with plaster hands and legs and wood and cloth body. Imans Paris on the lower torso. Screw-in, painted papier mache hands (with fingernails) and painted papier mache legs. Leather shoes and wool socks attached to legs. Cream cotton fabric covered upper and lower torso. Upper torso has a small hinged flap which shows the inner metal and wood frame. Lower torso is somewhat anatomically correct in front and back. Arms are wood with joints for elbows and shoulders. Waist, arms, and shoulders are adjustable. Mannequin stands on its own although it takes some work to get it balanced, but there is a hole in the bottom of one shoe to insert a pole for further support. In pencil across shoulder, it reads [Rectangle shape] 4853. A great statement piece in a business or home! Some wear, scuffs, and chips on paint, fabric, and wood. A few joints are loose. Inner middle support appears to be somewhat damaged — the mannequin stands straight with difficulty. Wood has old worm damage in places and very light water stains on upper torso, which seem to add character. Some moth holes in black socks. Cracking through some of the fingers and some (unfortunate) gluing. Nails all show signs of a bit of rusting. Hands are screwed into the dressform. Fabric upper torso has a vintage repair nailed in on the left shoulder. Head is not included. This is an amazing piece of fashion history and advertising history, a collector’s item. We do not recommend purchasing this item to use regularly as a dressform. Mannequin stands 5 feet and 7 inches tall (without head). Shoe size is a man’s size 7.5 (US). Weighs approximately 16 pounds.
